Laurie Buckhout is a retired Army Colonel and decorated combat commander who follows a long line of combat veterans, including her Infantry Colonel father, her Army Air Corps Flight Nurse mother, her grandfather, her uncles and multiple other relatives. Laurie’s husband Paul, a West Point graduate and Army Infantry Airborne Ranger who served with Delta Force, is also a retired officer from a family of combat veterans stretching back to the French and Indian Wars of 1754-1763. Laurie is also a committed constitutional conservative who proudly cast her first vote for Ronald Reagan in 1980.

Laurie grew up on a farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley and attended James Madison University on an ROTC Scholarship. She was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps in 1984 and spent the next 26 years in assignments around the world, including commanding hundreds of troops in a task force as part of the initial spearhead attack into Iraq in 2003. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from James Madison University, a Master’s of Military Arts and Science in National Military Strategy, and a Master’s of Science in Information Management from Webster University.
Retiring in from the Army in 2010, she founded her own business, Corvus Consulting, a strategic consulting and services group specializing in Electronic Warfare and Cyberspace Operations, which she grew to over $43M in value in less than seven years. In 2019, Laurie sold her company and served on the new company’s Board of Directors for three years. She is also a past President of the Association of Old Crows, the International Electronic Warfare Association; and served as a Special Government Employee supporting the US Department of Commerce. She has extensive experience working with Federal and Congressional organizations on legal, budgetary and legislative matters.
Laurie’s military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), and several awards of Joint and Army Commendation and Achievement Medals and well as other various service awards. She also wears permanent orders of the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Meritorious Unit Award, as well as the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Joint Staff, White House and Army Staff Badges.
Laurie has been married to Paul for 29 years and they have 2 sons, John and Thomas, both College seniors. They reside in Edenton, North Carolina where they are very active in supporting Veterans, conservative causes, the local baseball team (Go Steamers!) and the Boys and Girls Club of the Albemarle.
